Women in America Mixed Media Project

Propaganda Inspirationn

Shepard Fairey is my favorite artist by far. He is best known for is OBEY campaign which is now a successful clothing line. His initial piece of work, a small intricate black and white version of an old boxers face, can be see in each of his works. Most of his works are for a cause, which I really like and will bring into my project. I wan't to add a mixed media vibe that builds on top of a single idea/concept and lets the viewer figure it out.

Reading 4

After reading this piece, I think I agree more with Einstein's point of view than Benjamin's.  I think that art allows us to see the world from a new perspective and to think more creatively as a result.  In terms of the reproduction of art, I think that it allows people who might not ever get the chance to travel and see an original piece in person, the chance to experience the work and ultimately derive meaning from it.  If art creates culture and perspective, then the reproduction of art is a good thing because it encourages change in society.

Mixed Media Project

Here's my mixed media project.  I used both digital and analog collage to illustrate clutter in advertising.  The man in my piece is Don Draper from Mad Men.

Propaganda Artist

The propaganda artist that I chose to research for this assignment is Barbara Kruger. I had known a little about her and was interested to learn more. Using found, collaged images and bold red and white type Kruger draws the viewer in with catchy slogans such as "I shop therefore I am." Many of Kruger's pieces deal with feminism and also the consumerism that takes place in our society.

Mixed Media Project 2

After finally applying the dirt, I was satisfied with my project. I wish that I would have been able to find a better way for the dirt to stay though. The lettering which was done by hand also could have been fixed in certain areas but overall I was happy with the way it turned out.
